I’ll never forget the precious time spent reconnecting with my husband during our cruise journey in the southern Mediterranean. We were stationed with the Air Force in Europe at the time: the workdays were long, and our together time always seemed too short. So when the opportunity presented itself to sail on this cruise, we jumped on it.
Our cruise was full of adventure – we wandered through columned ruins in Ephesus, explored winding streets laced with the scent of myrrh in Jerusalem, and sipped iced hibiscus tea while meandering down the Nile.
Some of the most memorable moments were spent savoring authentic local food, from the homemade taboulleh we sampled during a private coastal excursion in Haifa, to the creamy gelato we enjoyed while walking along medieval fortress walls in Rhodes. (Though the meals we most relished were the delicious ones we ate onboard, including a special wine-pairing menu with the ship’s chief engineer!)
Odd as it may seem, one particular memory that stands out clearly from that trip is of a white and orange cat that we observed peacefully napping in a tree in Rhodes. Despite being near a bustling sidewalk, that cat had shifted himself into full rest and relaxation mode. We felt the same way traveling onboard our comfortable cruise ship.
Our cruise together was the perfect combination of destination discovery and relaxation, and we only had to unpack once.
